Panama Canal Ship Spotting May 2 video 4 of 4
The massive 13,092 TEU COSCO Shipping Neo-Panamax container vessel COSCO DEVELOPMENT slowly and carefully makes her approach to the new Agua Clara Locks on Gatun Lake on it’s historic northbound Panama Canal transit. With the help of the Panama Canal Authority tugs CERRO PICACHO (bow), CERRO LA VIEJA (starboard), and CERRO CAMPANO (stern), the 141, 800 ton COSCO DEVELOPMENT enters and passes through the new Agua Clara Locks of the expanded Panama Canal.
This vessel is the first 13,000+ TEU container ship to transit the new expanded Panama Canal and the largest vessel of any kind to ever transit from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. However, since I shot this video, a slightly larger capacity vessel the OOCL FRANCE at 13, 208 TEU made the transit in late May, 2017.
This vessel likely paid over a million dollars for this 10 hour transit. However it would have costed several million dollars in fuel and other expenditures if it had to travel around South America and would add another three weeks transit time from Asia to the east coast of the United States.
Also worth mentioning that COSCO Shipping is (as of April 1, 2017) part of the Ocean Alliance with partners CMA CGM, Evergreen, and OOCL. COSCO was previously part of the CKYHE alliance.
This is also my last video I shot during my two week stay in Panama.

Sorry, the caption says 13,000 TEU but it’s actually 13,092 TEU.
Please note: This is a very long video, so feel free to skip ahead – the ship begins to enter the lock chamber at about 5:30 and a nice close-up view of the bridge/wheelhouse at 9:15

Is this vessel Panamanian
two questions: arent mules any effective or it's a boring job? is it just me or are there people in the cages at the bow? what are they for?
Fulloaded weight 35,000 ton hoga bro
I hope its got a big engine.. 🤔
That's a floating container terminal !!! 🤣
👍
That thing Is huge
there is no mooring finally ?
Biggest warn. No smoking!
Very slow "drive" through the canal, for obvious reasons. But once it's in the open oceans, I wonder how fast this ship can travel when the captain puts the pedal to the metal.
When AOC gets her way, which will power these massive cargo ships, solar or wind?
13000? I counted 18 rows in length 16 width x 8 height containers.
2304 containers x 28000KG net tara each = 64512 tons net load
The off-stack and rear 2 rows not counted.
Plenty of room on each side….
"Sneeze" ooops
No smoking but your mufler full with carbon😂😂
just one word….. W O W !
why not just set up a pulley system when they constructed the new canal? Out in the bay when the ships are waiting they are hooked up and then the pully trains just pull them through. Put the video on 4x speed and its much better to watch
Are these the new panama locks?
Why did the Canal Company decide not to use the electric mules lime the ones they have in the "old" canal?
Lame filming!
You worded it as if it’s the only one, this is a class of ships called Panamax.
It a new lock and that ship still fills it.
I was lucky enough to get 12 transits in. Geopolitics aside, every time we went through I felt the magnitude of the space.
I hope that after having spent millions on bribes, and investment in expansion, now big part of the income is distributed in Panamanian social development and not on another "bribes-expansion" of it again.
Those little tug boats are awesome
Background noise is annoying
